Keri Village:
On the green hills, only 20 kilometres from Zakynthos town and the
airport and a few kilometres away from Keri Lake, the road snakes its
way up to the village of Keri. One of the most beautiful villages
on the island and established since ancient times, it is still inhabited
by Real Greeks who do not see visitors just as foreign currency but as
their guests. In Keri, the Greek word Filoxenia - hospitality is
unlike other tourist resorts, far from a forgotten sentiment.
Keri Lake: Though
a small resort Keri Lake offers its holidaymakers most of the important
facilities necessary to make their holiday comfortable. On the
narrow main road leading from the gnarly olive groves to the beach,
there are a number of shops, supermarkets, a lively bar (the Rock Café),
tavernas and car/moped hire centres. In keeping with the resort,
these are all very small and personal.
The
waterfront with its narrow, part sandy, part pebbly beach and small
fishing harbour attracts visitors, including many local families, who
stop either to have a swim in the blue safe waters of Keri Lake or rent
a little boat to explore the area. The tiny fishing harbour is a
well known starting point for boat trips to places like Keri Caves (some
of the most interesting rock formations on the island), Marathonisi
Island (Turtle Island) and turtle spotting trips in Laganas Bay. Keri
Lake is the only natural harbour mentioned in the sailing pilot books on
this side of the island for safe anchorage. During the summer
months quite a few sailing boats and yachts of all sizes visit
and anchor for the night here.
Accommodation in Keri Lake tends to consist of small apartment blocks
and quaint hotels, all surrounded by their own grounds and gardens.
On
the hillsides around the bay, you find some pretty villas, hotels and
some very popular Greek and international restaurants, where you can
enjoy breathtaking views of the bay of Laganas.
Transfer Time from airport is
approximately 35 minutes.
